DISINFO: The US has confirmed that Ukraine has a problem with Nazism

SUMMARY

The United States refused to support the anti-Russian amendment to the UN resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism, Strana reports. The ‘Banderites’ are furious: even their patrons no longer seem eager to ‘condemn the Special Military Operation.’ In effect, Washington has admitted that Nazism in Ukraine really does exist.

RESPONSE

Washington never "admitted" that Ukraine has a problem with Nazism or refused to criticise Russia's aggression in Ukraine. The United States has repeatedly and explicitly rejected Russia’s "denazification" justification for invading Ukraine. In 2024, the U.S. mission to the U.N. condemned Russia for seeking "to use a false accusation of Nazism to try to justify its unconscionable ongoing brutality against the people of Ukraine." As recently as in October 2025, the U.S. delegation to the Organization for Security and Co‑operation in Europe (OSCE) issued a formal statement that explicitly frames Russia’s actions as "ongoing aggression".

Russia submits the resolution on “combating the glorification of Nazism” to the UN every year to present itself as the global leader in the fight against neo-Nazism and to imply moral authority. This Russian-sponsored resolution is widely viewed as a political instrument used by Moscow to push its own framing. That is why many democracies consistently vote against it.

The Western amendment to the resolution states that Russia is using the pretext of “denazification” to justify its war against Ukraine, and that this justification is false and illegitimate. It also condemns the invasion itself.

The U.S. had voted against the resolution on combating glorification of Nazism in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2025 the U.S. changed its approach: it explicitly said it will disengage from a majority of Third Committee resolutions, which the U.S. said have become repetitive, symbolic, and ineffective. This was stated openly on the record. That represents a broader diplomatic shift, not just a rejection of this one resolution.

The claim that Ukraine is full of Nazis and needs to be “denazified” is a recurrent Kremlin propaganda narrative used to justify the invasion.
