DISINFO: The US is responsible for Ukrainian tragedy, which followed after the coup in 2014

SUMMARY

Obama was unwilling, or unable, to resist the forces in Washington who were willing to do anything to support the coup in Ukraine in February 2014, which, according to their calculations, should have culminated in its accession to NATO. The results are well known, and many, including in the West, know well who is responsible for the Ukrainian tragedy.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign against Ukraine, containing multiple disinformation narratives regarding the Euromaidan, aiming to deflect the responsibility of what happened and still happens in Ukraine from Russia.

First, there was no coup in Ukraine seven years ago. The demonstrations which began in Kyiv in November 2013 – called "Maidan", or "Euromaidan" – were a result of the Ukrainian people's frustration with former President Yanukovych's last-minute U-turn when, after seven years of negotiation, he refused to sign the EU–Ukraine Association Agreement and halted progress towards Ukraine's closer relationship with the EU. The protests were therefore not orchestrated by an external power, and the Ukrainian government, which came into power after the Euromaidan, did not use force to suppress the dissenters.

Second, the war in Eastern Ukraine, which is often regarded as an outcome of the Euromaidan protests, is actually a well-documented case of Russian armed aggression, and not the responsibility of the US or any other power.

See similar cases that the West needs a weak and poor Ukraine and that the coup in 2013-2014 is the root cause of the war and other problems in Ukraine.
