DISINFO: The US is using Central Asia in a proxy war against Russia and China
SUMMARY
Washington seeks to destroy Russian-Chinese cooperation and use the countries of Central Asia in a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia and China. The fight against China is a strategic priority for Washington. The U.S. goal is to restore its role as a "major player" in the region, to use Central Asia as a lever of influence on Moscow and Beijing in solving strategic tasks in Ukraine, the Middle East and Taiwan.
RESPONSE
A mix of pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives claiming that the West is waging a hybrid war against Russia in Central Asia. This narrative fits into the broader disinformation theme about the West’s allegedly belligerent and hostile agenda against Russia, and about its alleged plans to destabilise and encircle Russia.
The article promotes the claim that Central Asia is within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other cooperation between it and Western partners such as the EU and United States. The overall aim of cooperation is to build a common area of shared democracy, prosperity, and stability in line with each individual country's aspirations.
The EU and US recognise the importance of the sovereignty and strategic autonomy of the Central Asian States, individually and as a region. Tackling common security challenges and building the region’s resilience are among priority strands for the EU-Central Asia and US-Central Asia partnerships. The US–Kazakhstan and EU-Kazakhstan partnerships are not directed against Russia or any other country.
Involvement in EU or US initiatives does not exclude membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, CIS, or CSTO.
