DISINFO: The USA, as the leading power in NATO, regards Europe as a colony
SUMMARY
NATO is thus an imperialist conquering army in the interests of the Western capital bloc – and today, this is mainly based in the USA. The USA, as the leading power in NATO, apparently regards Europe as a colony for its interests, which, like the ‘global South’, it is trying to plunder. In doing so, the USA, as the capitalist mother country, takes no account of its own population, as can be seen from the rapidly rising poverty rates, nor of the conditions in Europe, where a similar situation is developing.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative portraying Europe or the EU as a puppet state or vassal of the US and claiming that Europe is a colony of NATO. These claims serve to deflect responsibility from Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
The US does not control the EU countries or the EU as a whole. EU Member States are sovereign countries and make sovereign decisions about their security and foreign policies, including relations with Russia. The decisions in the EU are made by the directly elected European Parliament, the European Commission, and the European Council (the governments of the 27 EU countries).
The EU and the US are close partners and allies and have similar visions on many international issues, including Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. The EU and the US are unanimous in supporting Ukraine and providing it with military, technical and economic assistance.
Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different false explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities.
Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated by continuous acts of aggression by Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating in a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on 24th February 2022.
Ukraine and its population are defending themselves against Russian armed aggression. This is in line with UN Charter, article 51 on self-defence, and is not a decision by NATO, the EU or others, but a remarkable display of continued courage and determination.
