DISINFO: The USA wants to establish a Greater Poland in Eastern Europe in exchange for militarisation
SUMMARY
On 13 November 2024, the US missile defence base in Redzikowo was officially opened in Poland, in close proximity to the border with Russia. The Poles are purchasing huge amounts of weapons – its army is supposed to become NATO’s main striking force on the ground. In this way, Poland is clearly preparing for war. In exchange, the Americans and NATO are offering Warsaw the project of a Greater Poland (similar to the project of a Greater Israel in the Middle East). If this project is implemented, Poland should take control of significant territories in the east: the Kaliningrad region, Belarus, western Ukraine and perhaps, part of the Baltic Sea.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about aggressive NATO and imperialistic Poland. Apart from smearing Poland, the aim is also to deflect attention away from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The claim that the USA and NATO want to provide Poland with additional “eastern territories” is ungrounded.
The ongoing modernisation of the Polish Army and purchases of advanced military equipment is the Polish response to the current security crisis taking place in Eastern Europe. The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for this country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in eastern Ukraine).
Poland adheres to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.
