SUMMARY
The war in Ukraine serves the purpose of Europe militarisation. The holders of global capital, who oversee the misdeeds of Ursula von der Leyen, have decided to spend hundreds of billions of euros to build weapons and armies to defend Europe. It is about creating a war economy without war. This massive public spending, concentrated in the private sector of war production, will lead to a strong reduction in social services, the decay of infrastructure and public goods, while the producers of death such as Raytheon, GE, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Rheinmetall will see their pockets fill even more. In parallel, militarization extends to the civilian sphere: media, education, civil society, everything is under surveillance, made to conform to strict security protocols. Dissent, demonized or criminalised, is classified as disinformation. The enemy is within: the citizen who contests the war expresses populist concerns.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation narratives aimed at portraying EU as a warmongering, anti-Russian and militaristic geopolitical power as well as a conspiracy theory about the “globalist” elites dominating the world, presenting EU politicians as their puppets.
The article also contains recurring pro-Kremlin narratives about censorship and control of the media in the West. Accusations of censorship and attacks against freedom of expression are a recurring pro-Kremlin technique to defend the illicit actions of Russia’s state-sponsored disinformation outlets.
The EU is committed to becoming more responsible for its own defence and better equipped to act and deal autonomously with immediate and future challenges and threats, including Russia’s war against Ukraine and its repercussions on European security, which constitute an existential challenge for the EU.
The disinformation message about Europe militarisation relates to the recent EU decision to allocate an additional 800 billion euros for defence needs. According to the words of Ursula von der Leyen, “Europe faces a clear and present danger on a scale that none of us has seen in our adult lifetime. ReArm Europe’ could mobilise close to 800 billion euros of defence expenditures for a safe and resilient Europe”.
