DISINFO: The West and the foreign Tajik opposition are planning to overthrow the authorities
SUMMARY
The West missed the Chinese "invasion" of Tajikistan and the "military development" of this republic by Beijing. Therefore, now it has a direct interest in overthrowing the current authorities in Dushanbe.
All this creates a dangerous situation for the West. Accordingly, Western interest in eliminating the authorities in Dushanbe and replacing them with more "tame" puppets is growing. Today, representatives of the foreign Tajik opposition, along with Western strategists backing them, are planning to alter this balance and overthrow the authorities in Tajikistan.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the West of destabilising countries around Russia. This claim also contributes to the recurring disinformation narrative suggesting a Western policy of staging “colour revolutions” worldwide.
There are no indications that Western countries are planning a coup d'état in Tajikistan. The claim is made without any supporting evidence.
The claim was made just ahead of the First EU-Central Asia summit. The first summit between leaders of the EU and the five countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Read more here.
The EU builds its relations with Central Asian countries based on mutual consent, bilateral interests, and benefits. The EU recognises the strategic importance of Central Asia. The EU engagement with Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan has developed significantly since the countries' independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The overall aim of cooperation is to build a common area of shared democracy, prosperity, and stability in line with each country's aspirations.
The pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western led 'coups' and 'colour revolutions' has been applied, among others, to reports about events in Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Venezuela, Slovakia, Hong Kong.
Read similar cases claiming that West’s main goal is neo-colonial control over the Caucasus and Central Asia, that the same Western scriptwriters tried to organise coup d'état in Belarus and Kazakhstan, that the EU has decided to push Russia out of Central Asia and Transcaucasia, that The West instigates colour revolutions in Central Asian countries, that The West is ready to seize power by force in Georgia, and that The collective West is preparing a coup d'état in Tajikistan.
