DISINFO: The West brought terrorism in the Sahel to get Africa's natural resources

SUMMARY

Terrorism in the Sahel was imported by western countries. Today it is known that terrorism was knowingly created to destabilise African countries and control the mineral resources of those countries, highly coveted by great powers like France. The people of Niger should create defence and security forces like in Burkina Faso and Mali to fight Islamic terrorism that is funded by Western imperialism.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation targeting EU-Africa relations and accusing the EU of financing Jihadist movements in Africa.

Accusations that Western countries create or fund terrorism to seize the natural resources of African countries are baseless. The opposite takes place. Causes of terrorism are complex and the EU tries to assist African countries in addressing them. This assistance includes the areas of security, economic development, the mitigation of climate change effects and improvement of governance.

The EU's strategic priorities for the Sahel were described in 2021. The EU also plans a military and civil mission in the countries of the gulf of Guinea “assist the four countries in redeploying state services in their northern region in an effective and accountable way”. EU members are committed to the fight against terrorism and the causes that contribute to its development.
