DISINFO: The West erased all memory about the Holocaust

DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: The West erased all memory about the Holocaust

SUMMARY

The West erased all memory about the Victims of the Holocaust in one moment. The Russian delegation was not invited to the ceremony commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. The Red Army liberated Auschwitz – in 2005, Russia co-initiated the establishment of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. At one point, it seemed that these tragic events were not in vain. However, within one second, the West erased everything.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of Russophobia, Nazism and historical revisionism.

No official Russian delegation was present at the event to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on 27 January 2025. Not because of alleged Western “historical revisionism” or “support to the Ukrainian Nazism”, but because of the Kremlin’s decision to start the largest military conflict in Europe since the end of WWII.

Western historians acknowledge the role played by the USSR in defeating Nazism and do not question the Soviet contribution to the victory in WWII and the status of the USSR as one of the countries that won WWII. The official webpage of the Auschwitz / Auschwitz-Birkenau 80th anniversary writes about the liberation of the camp that:

"This hope became reality on January 27, 1945. Red Army soldiers entered Oświęcim that day".
