A certain area within which there will be no confident regime capable of defending the interests of its people. Thus, Israel simply has no opponents left who can deal it any significant blow. Stability in Syria has been lost for many decades. Even if a certain leader is established here, he will most likely be a Western protégé.

There is no credible evidence that US and British intelligence trained members of the Islamist alliance Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
The civil war in Syria has been ongoing since 2011. In March 2011, popular discontent with Bashar al-Assad’s rule triggered large-scale protests and pro-democracy rallies across Syria, as part of the wider Arab Spring protests. After months of crackdowns by the government’s security apparatus, various armed rebel groups, such as the Free Syrian Army, began forming across the country, marking the beginning of the Syrian insurgency.
Heavy fighting renewed in November 2024 with a major rebel offensive in the northwest led by Tahrir al-Sham. In its former incarnation as Jabhat al-Nusra or the al-Nusra Front, HTS declared allegiance to al-Qaida. It publicly broke those ties in 2016 and rebranded as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or the Organization for the Liberation of the Levant.
The Syrian Free Army and the Syrian Democratic Forces launched their own offensives in Palmyra and Deir ez-Zor, respectively. By 8 December 2024, rebel forces had seized the capital, Damascus. Following this, the Bashar al-Assad's regime collapsed, with al-Assad fleeing to Moscow.
Syrian civilians ransacked various locations belonging to Bashar al-Assad, discovering luxury items while 90% percent of the population lived in poverty, CNN reported. Assad’s fall sparked euphoria in Syrian capital, as the FT reported.
