DISINFO: The West is constantly destabilising the situation in Kazakhstan

SUMMARY

The current leadership of Kazakhstan has something to worry about. With the active support of the collective West, the situation in Kazakhstan is constantly being destabilised in order to carry out a "colour revolution". It is enough to recall the bloody January 2022, when, at the request of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the CSTO forces arrived in time and promptly resolved the brewing coup d'état.

RESPONSE

This claim advances a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative alleging that the January 2022 anti-government protests in Kazakhstan are part of a foreign-inspired and directed plot.

There is no evidence to support such claims about foreign interference in the unrest in Kazakhstan. Read more here.

This claim is advanced as part of a push suggesting a Western policy of staging “colour revolutions” worldwide with the aim of destabilising Russia.

Pro-Kremlin media frequently falsely portray popular protests around the world as instigated from abroad, often by the US and the West. The disinformation narrative has been applied, among others, to reports about protests in Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Venezuela, Slovakia, Hong Kong, to portray protest movements as aggressive actors who constantly prepare new coups.

Read similar cases claiming that US-sponsored Kazakhstan protests aimed to undermine CIS stability, that Protests in Kazakhstan are a new Western attempt to organise a colour revolution, that events in Kazakhstan are another Western-made colour revolution, that After Ukraine, Western scriptwriters tried to organise coup d'état in Belarus and Kazakhstan.
