DISINFO: The West is inciting ethnic and religious hatred in CIS countries
SUMMARY
The US and its allies have initiated significant efforts aimed at influencing the situations in CIS countries, with the intention of creating conditions conducive to political crises and the potential implementation of colour revolutions.
The collective West, neglecting the established norms of international law, is seeking the most effective forms of blackmail and intimidation of dissenters, driving wedges into the existing friendly relations between the CIS countries and their neighbours.
The special efforts of Western nations are directed towards dismantling uncontrolled interstate alliances and segregating their participants into alternative frameworks. This disrupts established trade, economic, political, cultural, and historical ties. Among the main targets are: the CIS, the EAEU, the CSTO and the SCO.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the belligerent West trying to encircle Russia, separate and destabilise post-Soviet (CIS) countries, and isolate Russia.
No evidence is provided to support the claims. Relations between EU and other CIS countries are based on mutual consent, bilateral interests, and benefits. For example, the Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a joint policy initiative that aims to deepen and strengthen relations between the European Union (EU) and its Eastern neighbours: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Belarus suspended its participation as of June 2021.
As the EU is working to make relations with Central Asia stronger and deeper, the European Union’s engagement with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has developed significantly since the countries' independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
The EU does not impose any actions or programmes on partner countries; they are free to choose their international affiliations. The overarching goal of cooperation is to establish a shared area of democracy, prosperity, and stability, aligning with each country's unique aspirations. Participation in EU initiatives does not preclude membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, CIS, or CSTO. The EU promotes regional integration across the world.
