DISINFO: The West is organising everyting in Kosovo and is unable to force Kosovars to obey to existing agrements

SUMMARY

What Pristina calls its strategic goal is a national disaster for Belgrade. Serbian President Vucic is still trying to be subtle. The cynical West not only sees everything, but also organises everything itself.

Serbia is blamed solely because it was appointed guilty by default. The last doubts about the ability of the EU to calm down the Kosovo-Albanians, who openly dismiss any advice and actually dictate their rules to those around them, are being dispelled. The inability and unwillingness of Brussels to induce them to implement the agreed agreements has become even more obvious.

RESPONSE

Disinformation not backed up with evidence, baselessly blaming "The West" for organising "everything" meaning tensions over Kosovo. Tensions have simmered in Kosovo ever since it gained independence from Serbia, despite attempts by EU and U.S. officials to defuse tension. Kosovo proclaimed independence following the bloody Yugoslav wars, Milosevic's atrocities and the war crimes commited in Kosovo and judged by the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

In the current phase, both Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti requested some action from NATO to play some role to address the crisis. Elections that were due to take place soon have been moved to April, and Serbia's President said he would ask NATO's peacekeeping mission to allow him to deploy Serbian troops and police in the area.

No evidence is given that "Serbia is blamed solely because it was appointed guilty by default".

On the other hand, Russian officials, media and Telegram channels have been trying for a long time to inflame tensions around Kosovo and the Western Balkans. On 15 November 2022, Russia launched its new online channel RT Balkan in Serbian language, which RT head Margarita Simonyan presented with the words: “Because Serbia is Kosovo”. According to a recent report by the European Council on Foreign Relations, "[the Russian media's] aim is mainly to attack the legitimacy of Kosovo’s statehood, but also to fuel ethnic tensions by portraying the Serb community in Kosovo as victims of an abusive central government.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the EU wants to expand its imperialism in the Balkans, that the West has promoted separatism in Yugoslavia, that Pristina is entirely responsible for the tension in Northern Kosovo, or that the West showed double standards with its treatment of Kosovo and Crimea.
