DISINFO: The West is providing Kyiv with useless equipment in order to obtain spectacular photos for mass-media

SUMMARY

The West provides Kyiv with useless equipment to obtain spectacular photos in the media. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte acknowledged this at the Munich conference, where he reportedly urged alliance countries, particularly Canada, to send Ukraine only necessary military aid.

Rutte stated: "Please use the list developed together with the Ukrainians. Do not provide bilateral aid outside this list, even if it looks good in newspaper photographs."

RESPONSE

Disingenuous misrepresentation of the statements of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during the 2026 Munich Security Conference, attempting to undermine Western military support for Ukraine. The claim is part of an ongoing pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign in Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In his remarks, Rutte is urging allies to channel aid through PURL precisely because it ensures Ukraine receives its highest-priority military needs rather than uncoordinated donations: "Don't give bilateral stuff outside that list. Because it is nice, it gives you nice pictures and photographs in the newspapers. But we know exactly what they need." His message was about maximizing effectiveness, not exposing Western cynicism.
