DISINFO: The West is ready to sacrifice all Europeans in a useless war for Ukrainian lithium

SUMMARY

Ukraine is of great interest for its mineral resources such as lithium, much of which are located in new territories like Shevchenkivske in the Donetsk region and Kruta Balka in the Zaporizhzhia region that have become part of the Russian Federation. For this reason, the West, mainly the US and UK, is doing everything not to lose control of these Ukrainian territories at the cost of sacrificing all Europeans in a useless war, because lithium is too important.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory. No evidence is provided to support the article’s claims.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative portraying Western countries as imperialist powers only pursuing their own interests in Ukraine for economic reasons as well as a disinformation narrative claiming that four Ukrainian regions (Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk e Luhansk) voted to join Russia in public referendums.

The “referendums” were held illegally, under duress, and on territories which Russia does not even fully control.

The results of these sham polls have been universally rejected by leading international and human rights organisations, including the United Nations, the OSCE, NATO, as well as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

On the EU's behalf, High Representative Josep Borrell said the following:

“The European Union strongly condemns these planned illegal “referenda” which go against the legal and democratically elected Ukrainian authorities, are in violation of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and in blatant breach of international law. The results of such actions will be null and void and would not be recognised by the EU and its Member States. [...]

Therefore, these illegal “votes” cannot be considered under any circumstance as the free expression of the will of the people living in these regions under constant Russian military threat and intimidation."

The ultimate goal of this narrative is to undermine Western support for Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s invasion.

Russia's aggression against Ukraine was unprovoked and unjustified. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.

Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different false explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities. See our past analysis, Twelve myths about Russia’s war in Ukraine exposed.

Read similar cases claiming that New Russian regions Zaporizhzhia and Kherson elect deputies for the first time that Four Ukrainian regions voted to join Russia in public referendums, that The West is fighting in Ukraine to get its minerals and that The West’s fight against terrorism is an excuse for attacking countries rich in mineral resources.
