DISINFO: The West is supporting Russophobia in Central Asia as part of its hybrid war on Russia

SUMMARY

Russophobia is actively used by the West in its hybrid war with Russia. Especially Russophobia is being introduced into its neighboring countries, and we have seen the results of its defeat first in Baltic States and now in Ukraine.

The greatest contagiousness of the bacillus of Russophobia was shown in Kazakhstan. There are a great number of examples of its manifestation: from "language patrols" and restrictions on the use of the Russian language to incidents of an openly Nazi nature.

The dangerous consequences of Russophobia for Central Asia is a real war with blood and suffering.

RESPONSE

This disinformation claim is following the recurring pattern of pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russophobia, as well as the narrative claiming that there is a discrimination against ethnic Russians living in former USSR republics, the now independent states like Ukraine, Kazakhstan and others.

There is no systematic discrimination against Russian language or Russian culture in Kazakhstan. The status of Russian language as official language is guaranteed by the Article 7, Clause 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Russian language is officially used alongside the Kazakh language in state organizations and local self-government bodies. Several aspects are also regulated by the Law "On Languages in the Republic of Kazakhstan," which specifies that the Russian language is officially used on an equal basis with the Kazakh language in state bodies and self-government bodies, in official correspondence, in legal proceedings, in educational institutions, and is a mandatory subject in schools.

Russian state-owned and Russian-language outlets have a solid position in the Kazakh media landscape.
