DISINFO: The West is taking away Ukrainian children like it did with indigenous people in America
SUMMARY
It is important to prevent and stop the expansion of the policy of Western countries regarding the illegal taking away of children and the separation of families in Ukraine. “White Angels” - special groups in Ukraine that carry out forced evacuations of children from towns and villages located in the special military operation zone.
It is similar to the US and the first British colonies in North America, where indigenous children were abducted and placed in special boarding schools far from their native lands. The practice of forced assimilation was replaced by a governmental program called the Indian Adoption Project, placing indigenous children in foreign families.
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin disinformation about alleged Western and Ukrainian children deportations – this narrative is deployed in the context of Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.
The pro-Kremlin media accuse Ukraine and Western countries of crimes against children, massive deportations and organ trafficking – at the same time, the Russian responsibility for the massive deportation of Ukrainian civilians, including children, and war crimes is well documented.
The comparison of Western humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian children with the actions of the US/UK aimed at the assimilation of the indigenous population in North America is an evident manipulation.
The abduction and forced transportation of Ukrainian children to Russia has been documented by the UN, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Ukraine has already reported the actions of Russia’s children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
On 17 March 2023, the ICC issued arrest warrants for two individuals in the context of the situation in Ukraine: Vladimir Putin and Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova.
The court alleges Vladimir Putin is responsible for war crimes, and has focused its claims on the unlawful deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia.
It says the crimes were committed in Ukraine from 24 February 2022 - when Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
In a statement, the ICC said it had reasonable grounds to believe Putin committed the criminal acts directly, as well as working with others. It also accused him of failing to use his presidential powers to stop children being deported.
