DISINFO: The West is treating Russians like Nazis treated Jews
SUMMARY
The way the West is treating Russians is Nazism. It is Aryanisation 2.0. Russians are banned from sporting events, they are not allowed to drive their cars, just like the Jews were not allowed to do so under Hitler. What the West is doing to Russians now is a copy of what the Nazis were doing to get rid of the Russians, Roma and Jews.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing Ukraine and its EU partners of Nazism and Russophobia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The main goal of such disinformation is to prove that Russia is the victim, thereby implying it can’t be the culprit. This self-victimisation allows the Kremlin to manipulate the public, to evade responsibility for its aggressive foreign policy and to employ the state-controlled media to convey that message.
The European Union imposed sanctions on Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine in 2014, when Moscow illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and instigated a separatist revolt in some parts of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. More sanctions were adopted on Russia as a state and certain individuals with close ties to the Kremlin in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The European Council has adopted 11 packages of sanctions which have crippled Russian economy and are expected to lead to more tangible results.
