DISINFO: The West, led by the US, is waging a hybrid war against Russia
SUMMARY
About 50 countries of the United West are silently acting in the course of the overseas overlord. The remaining countries and there are more than 150 of them, do not want to agree with such a situation. This is why the US State Department has not been able to attract anyone from the global South, from Africa or Latin America to its side on the Ukrainian issue.
[...] The world community does not undertake to unequivocally condemn Russia in this confrontation, because this confrontation is by no means with Ukraine. Everyone without exception knows and understands that it is the West, led by the US, that is currently waging a hybrid war against Russia on the Ukrainian bridgehead.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the EU, the US and their allies of Russophobia and fighting a proxy war in Ukraine against Russia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The war in the east of Ukraine is a well-documented act of aggression by Russia’s armed forces, ongoing since February 2014. Russian officials, including Putin, have on many occasions publicly acknowledged that Russian citizens, including military personnel, are present in Ukraine's war zone. The full-scale invasion which Russia unleashed against Ukraine in February 2022 is another confirmation of Russia’s aggressive policies.
Ukrainians defend themselves against this armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision by NATO, Washington, the EU or others.
Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. Ukrainian partners do not recognise the self-proclaimed separatist entities in the east of Ukraine (‘DNR’ and ‘LNR’) and continue to support Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In March 2022 the UN overwhelmingly voted to adopt a resolution demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. The measure was adopted by a vote of 141 in favour to 5 against (Belarus, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Eritrea, Russian Federation, and Syria) with 35 abstentions — a clear reaffirmation of the 193-member world body’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.
In October 2022, the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution condemning Russia's annexation of four eastern Ukrainian regions with 143 votes in favour and 5 votes against.
As early as 2014, the EU and its allies imposed economic sanctions on Russia. These restrictive measures have intensified since the February 2022 invasion. The EU imposed its 14th package of sanctions against Russia in June 2024. It targets an additional 69 individuals and 47 entities responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
