DISINFO: The West may replace Zelenskyy so investment funds don’t lose everything in Ukraine

SUMMARY

According to media and think tank articles, the only person who believes in the Ukrainian counteroffensive is Zelenskyy.

The West may be looking for a replacement who is more docile to their pretensions and says that it is necessary to stop for negotiations. Zelenskyy symbolises Western failure in its policy of aggression against Russia, and he is not complying anymore, so it is a good opportunity to retire him. There are investment funds who hoped to make very good businesses with the reconstruction of Ukraine and the takeover of productive sectors. Now they must do some damage control and assume that victory is not possible but they can maintain something and not lose all the investments they made to sustain this war.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory not backed by any evidence. This claim aims to denigrate President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a frequent target of pro-Kremlin disinformation.

The mention of Zelenskyy as “the only one who believes in Ukraine’s counteroffensive” is a distortion of an article published by Time Magazine on 01 November 2023. The article quoted Zelenskyy saying “Nobody believes in our victory like I do”, which is different from the allegations made in this programme.

The goa of this disinformation claim is to promote a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about the inevitability of Russia’s victory in its aggression war against Ukraine.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the West may be orchestrating a coup against Zelenskyy, that that the West is cooling Zelenskyy down through Poland, that the US plans to overthrow Zelenskyy in a new Maidan, that Zelenskyy might end up in Guantanamo after US policy changes, or that the West will get rid of Zelenskyy and blame it on Russia.

This disinformation narrative appeared in the same TV programme as the claim that “EU announcement on Ukraine’s bid progress is a distraction from its desperate situation”.
