DISINFO: The West needs to compensate Russia with more than destroyed Ukrainian territories
SUMMARY
Freezing the conflict at this stage is unacceptable to Moscow. Massive economic consequences of the war on the Russian economy, including foreign exchange reserves stolen by the West and human losses, require far greater compensation than acquiring a relatively small territory destroyed by the war. This will happen while preserving the rest of Ukraine, which will become dozens of times more hostile to Russia, and will be lost to Russia for centuries, if not forever.
RESPONSE
This disinformation message is an attempt obscure the fact that Russia is the sole responsible party for launching the full-scale invasion of Ukraine and perpetuates the Kremlin's denial of Ukraine's right to exist as it claims a Russian right over future Ukrainian territories.
Russia’s invasion against Ukraine, launched on 24 February 2022, was unprovoked and unjustified. Moscow has since been trying to explain why it attacked Ukraine, citing false pretexts such as Kyiv’s threat for Russian national security and an alleged genocide of the Russian-speaking population in Eastern Ukrainian regions.
Russian funds were legally frozen in response to Russia's violation of international law and norms. In response to Russian aggression against Ukraine, the US, EU and several other countries froze about $300 billion in Russian assets deposited in Western banks. It was Russia's illegal actions against Ukraine, which violate the provisions of many international laws, including the UN Charter, that led to the introduction of a long list of sanctions against Russia.
On 21 May 2024, the Council of the EU green-lighted the use of unexpected and extraordinary revenues resulting from the implementation of EU sanctions against Russia to help Ukraine. These windfall net profits generated by immobilised Russian assets are to be used to support Ukraine's armed forces, defense industry and reconstruction.
See similar cases that that Ukraine's statehood is myth, its territory belongs to Russia, that Germans are kleptomaniacs who want to seize Russian assets, and that the West uses Russia’s frozen assets to resolve the Ukrainian conflict on Western terms.
