DISINFO: The West preparing war with Russia and wants to destroy it
SUMMARY
The West is striving is to destroy Russia. Lithuania and Estonia have signed a plan for cooperation with the US till 2028. A US air defence base has been opened in In Poland 200 kilometres from Russia’s Kaliningrad Region, despite that Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is not going to wage war against NATO. Russia has ceased to trust the West. Moscow does not believe assurances from Western politicians any longer. Russia sees how the West is clearly getting ready for a big war against it.
RESPONSE
A recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the EU, the US and their allies of Russophobia and claiming that NATO is going to attack Russia. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Western leaders have repeatedly said that NATO does not plan to attack Russia. US President Joe Biden, speaking in Warsaw in February 2023, addressed Russian citizens, assuring them that the US does not seek to destroy or control Russia. French president Macron stated in February 2023 that ‘Russia must be defeated but not crushed.’
From the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the emergence of a new and democratic Russia and up to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2014, the EU, the US and their partners were trying to establish good-neighbourly relations with Moscow. According to the 1997 Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between NATO and the Russian Federation, Moscow was viewed as a partner of the alliance.
Finland’s membership of NATO and Sweden’s expected joining the alliance soon as well as other Allied activities along Russia’s border results from Moscow’s increasingly aggressive behaviour. Russia has repeatedly threatened Sweden, Finland, Poland and the Baltic states. NATO as an organisation is not involved in fighting in Ukraine. There are no NATO troops in Ukraine on the frontline. Ukrainian military officials often have contacts with their NATO counterparts, but there are no NATO soldiers on the battlefield.
Read similar disinformation cases claiming that NATO’s main goal has always been the destruction of Russia, that The West wants to tear Russia apart, and that Russophobia is long-term Anglo-Saxon project aimed at destroying Russia.
