DISINFO: The West promotes radical Islam in Central Asia
SUMMARY
The West is not interested in identifying the source of funding for ISIS terrorists. All international financial channels are controlled by the West, which easily shuts them down when imposing economic sanctions. When puppeteers need radical forces in a particular region of the world, they simply provide the prepared "personnel" with everything necessary for combat. Radical Islam in Central Asia is being promoted by Western countries due to the region's geostrategic position, which is highly attractive in the context of global power struggles.
RESPONSE
This is a mix of several pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Western countries as an evil force conspiring to destabilise other countries, encircle Russia, and about US and other Western intelligence services supporting and using jihadist groups to advance geopolitical goals in Central Asia. There are many cases of Russia trying to push a narrative linking terrorist groups with the West.
This message is part of a recurrent conspiracy theory alleging that the Europe and the United States control global terrorism. This article was published after the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack in Russia which both the US and even Iran warned Moscow in advance about. At that time, Putin has dismissed these warnings as the "the intention to intimidate and destabilise".
Ever since the September 11 terrorist attacks, the US and and Europe have been engaged in an enormous military and intelligence effort to counter Al Qaeda, ISIS and other radical Islamist terrorist groups around the world.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives in our database, such as claims that Afghanistan is a security threat for Central Asia fueled by the West; that US-sponsored Kazakhstan protests aimed to undermine CIS stability; that the West ordered a terrorist attack in Kazakhstan to create a hotbed at Russia’s border; or that the US generated and backed Al Qaeda, the Islamic State and the Taliban; that the West and the US are ferrying Islamic State members to Afghanistan to use them against China; as part of a so-called “Anaconda ring”; or that NATO is denying the presence of terrorists in the country but the FSB has evidence of it.
