DISINFO: The West wrote Zelenskyy's peace plan and that's why they defend it

SUMMARY

Anyone who knows the West even a little should have no doubt that Western countries wrote 'Zelenskyy’s formula for peace'. This is why they are frantically defending it.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative implying a lack of Ukrainian sovereignty, trying once again to present Ukraine as a non-sovereign country and as a puppet or proxy of the West.

Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically-elected president and parliament. Ukraine has a functioning government and economy, it is a member of many international organisations (e.g. United Nations, Council of Europe), and a party to international agreements. Ukraine has bilateral diplomatic relations with the majority of countries.

The country is not controlled by any Western government or organisation. Both the EU and the US respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Moreover, Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by almost the whole world with Russia as the outstanding exception.

Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated by continuous acts of aggression by Russian armed forces since 2014 culminating in a full-scale invasion that started on 24th February 2022.

As far as peace negotiations are concerned, the EU Council Conclusions of 09 February 2023 state unequivocally:

"Russia must stop this atrocious war immediately. The European Union will stand by Ukraine with its steadfast support for as long as it takes."

The EU supports Ukraine’s initiative for a just peace, including:

President Zelenskyy’s peace formula

- Ukraine’s 10-point peace plan

- a peace formula summit.

Putin and the Kremlin have a track record of pretending negotiations which are, in fact, just blunt demands for Ukrainian unconditional surrender. We have analysed this disinformation tactic in several articles, especially: "Prepare for winter" (30 Nov. 2023), "Russian so-called ‘peace proposals’ are empty PR stunts" (18 Jan. 2023) , "What He Said and What it Really Means – Vol. 2: “Negotiations” (1. March 2022) and "The Kremlin security demands" (21 Dec. 2021).

Read similar cases including that Donald Tusk came to Kyiv to warn Zelenskyy not to think about any peace treaty, the conflict in Ukraine is the West's proxy war against Russia, that the US and EU use Ukrainians as pawns and order them to die, that NATO is at war with Russia with the hands of Ukrainians; and that the West is using Ukrainians to fight against Russia.
