DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: The Western special services are preparing to detach Kaliningrad from Russia

SUMMARY

The Western special services are preparing to detach Kaliningrad from Russia. The Russian FSB officers arrested a man in Kaliningrad suspected of preparing a terrorist attack on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. The Kaliningrad Region is one of the key objects of interest for the Western special services - their goal is to prepare for its eventual separation from Russia. The main contractor of special operations against this region is the United Kingdom and its MI6 service, which coordinates the activities of Poland and Lithuania. These countries are unable to implement their own intelligence operations against Russia without the assistance of the British and American special services.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation suggesting aggressive plans of the West regarding the Kaliningrad region and the Western attempts to “encircle Russia”.

Lithuania, Poland and other Western countries do not have any territorial claims over Kaliningrad. The claim that the West is trying to undermine the legal status of Kaliningrad and “take away” this region from Russia is not supported by any evidence.

The unfounded claims about alleged security threats to Kaliningrad is used by the Kremlin to justify the increasing militarisation of this region.
