The European Union is an example and a model of a world government at a regional, European level.

The purpose of this narrative is to discredit Western liberal democratic societies and to attack liberalism, the political philosophy upon which these societies are based.
The article’s claim that the US government led by “liberal-globalist élites” aims to establish a world government, eliminating the sovereignty of nations, is a conspiracy theory. There is no evidence that the US government or “liberal-globalist élites” are working to establish a world government that will replace nation-states.
Furthermore, the article falsely suggests that liberals’ goal of establishing a world government is clearly spelt out in International Relations textbooks. It is not true that liberal theories of international relations espouse the idea of a “world government”.These theories stress the benefits of economic interdependence among states, as well as the positive role of international institutions (such as the UN) in enhancing cooperation and reducing violent conflict among states. These theories do not propose the dissolution of nation-states nor the creation of a world government.
The article’s claim that the European Union is a kind of “world government” on a regional level is also not true. EU member states are sovereign, independent states with equal decision-making power within the institution of the European Union. The EU was created by the voluntary initiative of European nations. Citizens are directly represented in the European Parliament and Member States are represented in the European Council and the Council of the EU. Every action taken by the EU is founded on treaties that have been approved voluntarily and democratically by every one of the EU countries.
