DISINFO: Ukraine admits failure of Kursk operation
SUMMARY
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Olexandr Syrsky, admitted that Kyiv wanted to divert significant forces of the Russian army from the direction of the Red Army by attacking the Kursk region, but the attempt failed. Russia figured out these plans, the operation failed.

This claim was made in the context of a Ukrainian advance into Russia's Kursk region, which began on 6 August 2024.
The story bases its false assertion on distorting a speech by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the forum "Ukraine 2024. Independence" on August 27, 2024. Answering the question about the impact of the operation of the Ukrainian Defence Forces in the Kursk region of Russia, Olexandr Syrsky noted that one of the goals pursued by Ukraine was the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Ukrainian front. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that in general, Russia withdrew about 30,000 troops from the front in Ukraine and transferred them to the direction of Kursk. Syrsky noted how tension has decreased in the south of Ukraine. At the same time, Russia continues to put pressure in the east - in the Pokrovsk direction, pursuing the goal of reaching the administrative border of the Donetsk region of Ukraine.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that the Ukrainian Defence Forces not only pulled Russia away from certain sections of the front in Ukraine, but also continue to create a security zone for Ukrainian border settlements. The Commander-in-Chief noted a number of successes of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk direction.
"Every day, Russia shelled our border villages from the Kursk direction, we had numerous losses among the civilian population, and dozens of settlements were destroyed. The enemy concentrated a significant number of its troops in this direction and planned offensive operations from this direction. That is why - in order to create a security zone and stop shelling from this territory, protect the civilian population and facilities of the Sumy region, as well as to get ahead of the enemy - the Defense Forces began an offensive operation in the Kursk direction on August 6, 2024, and we continue to advance forward," Syrsky summarised (see video 02:16:17-02:17:19).
