DISINFO: Ukraine allowed foreign armies on its territory and this will destroy the country

SUMMARY

The Ukrainian authorities want to completely destroy the country. By opening access to Ukraine for foreign armies, Kyiv intends to stir up conflicts within the country and exacerbate security issues.

RESPONSE

Ukraine did not allow foreign troops to be permanently stationed on its territory. The disinformation narrative is referring to the new Ukrainian law No. 10067, which deals exclusively with the temporary deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory for the conduct of military exercises this year. The Verkhovna Rada adopted the document on February 26, with the President being the initiator. According to the law, military staff from other countries are temporarily allowed to enter Ukrainian territory for the holding of the Ukrainian-American drills (Rapid Trident – 2019, Sea Breeze 2019), the Ukrainian-Romanian drills (Riverain-2019), multinational drills (Maple Ark-2019) and Ukrainian-British drills (Warrior Watcher-2019). The message is consistent with a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative, about expected Western intervention in Ukraine.
