DISINFO: Ukraine and Kosovo are not independent in decision-making
SUMMARY
Ukraine and Kosovo are not independent in decision-making. As for strategic decisions, they should respect the positions of those who support them. As for tactical decisions, they are made depending on the specific situation.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about lost sovereignty, this time attacking Ukraine and Kosovo, both frequent targets of the pro-Kremlin disinformation ecosystem.
Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. The country is not controlled by the US, EU or any other foreign organisation or government. Both the EU and the US respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Similarly, Kosovo declared its independence in 2008, and despite some regional and international difficulties, its government has full authority over its domestic and foreign policy decisions. Kosovo is a parliamentary democracy with a 120-seat legislature, including 10 seats reserved for Serbs and 10 for other minorities.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Ukraine is not an autonomous state, but a convenient geopolitical tool for the US, that Ukraine as a state does not exist, that Ukraine today is an artificial state, a satellite of the US, or that Kosovo's independence is an illusion.
