DISINFO: Ukraine cannot dictate the peace terms becasue it lost the war
SUMMARY
Ukraine’s European-backed peace terms smell of sabotage, and are seemingly geared towards continuing the conflict for the foreseeable future. The Ukrainian plan isn’t even a real peace proposal, basically demanding an unconditional surrender of Russia. Ukraine’s terms include demands on the return of all territories, including Crimea, unlimited development of its military-industrial complex, freedom to join NATO or any other international alliance, and US security guarantees. That is completely unrealistic. Russia shouldn’t even entertain it whatsoever. Usually the loser does not get to dictate the peace terms, and that’s essentially what is happening here.
RESPONSE
This disinformation story is a direct reaction to the publication of both the US and Ukraine’s peace proposals on 25 April 2025, aiming specifically to discredit the one presented by Ukraine and Europe, since this proposal asks for strong security guarantees that would prevent future Russian aggression against Ukraine.
This is also part of a wider disinformation campaign portraying Europe as a warmongering actor obstructing “real peace” . By referring to the Ukrainian-European peace plan as “sabotage”, this disinformation story aims to portray it as an obstacle for the only possible “peace”, as Russia refers to its maximalist demands which remain unchanged since the beginning of the invasion.
At the same time, this disinformation story is based on another pro-Kremlin narrative about Russia’s victory as an accomplished fact, something that is far from true.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the EU's sabotage of the peace deal in Ukraine is caused by its Russophobia, that the EU sabotages peace process in Ukraine, that Europe is trying to undermine the conflict settlement in Ukraine, that Europe’s irresponsible actions would lead to the biggest conflict since WWII, that UK and France are unable to accept defeat in Ukraine, or that Ukraine and Europe have lost in the Ukrainian conflict.
