DISINFO: Ukraine did not, does not and will not exist
SUMMARY
Ukraine hasn't existed as a society since the Western coup in 2014. At the end of the USSR there was a small possibility for this country to exist, but as always in history when Ukraine had the possibility to be independent, it was controlled by foreign forces that use it against Russia. Ukraine never could be independent; it is destiny because historically, it is a Russian territory. Ukraine never had historical institutions, autonomy or its own political culture that allow it to exist independently. This is a fictive state. Ukraine will collapse in the arm of the victor. If it is the West, it will remain in ruins because the US and EU never rebuild the countries that they destroy, If it is Russia, it will be effectively rebuilt and integrated into the Russian Federation. All this demonstrates the impossibility of a project such as Ukraine.
RESPONSE
Recurrent negation of Ukrainian statehood and historical revisionism by pro Kremlin media.
The history of Ukraine is rich and complex and has a long tradition of political culture, see for example, the Gates of Europe by Serhii Plokhy. During 1917-1922, after the end of the Russian Empire, several independent states existed in Ukraine.
Present-day Ukraine has been on the world map since 1991 when the Soviet Union disintegrated. It has elected six presidents since then and changed parties in government several times which illustrates political diversity and democratic dynamics even during economic hardship in the wake of Russian aggression in 2014.
The perspective of Ukraine as a member of the European Union was reaffirmed by EU Commission President on 16 November 2023:
“If you stay the course at your impressive pace, the future of Ukraine is in the European Union.”
This denial of Ukraine's history recalls the events of May 23, 2023, when Vladimir Putin and Valery Zorkin claimed that a 17th-century map proved that Ukraine did not exist. However, right before their eyes, the word “Ukraine” was written on the map. Finally, various historical travel records about Ukraine, its inhabitants, culture, and language are readily accessible on the website of the National Library of France.
