DISINFO: Ukraine is definitely Russia

DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Ukraine is definitely Russia

SUMMARY

Once one of the former leaders of Ukraine said that Ukraine is not Russia. This concept must disappear forever. Ukraine is, of course, Russia

In Western Ukraine, especially in the Transcarpathian region, there are Russian people. We are not fraternal peoples, we are one people.

All our opponents need to firmly and forever understand the simple truth: the territories on both banks of the Dnieper are an integral part of Russia’s strategic historical borders, therefore all attempts to forcibly change them, to cut them off alive, are doomed.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin recurrent narrative denying Ukrainian statehood and justifying the unprovoked full scale military aggression of the country.

Russia's military invasion is not a civil war, but a brutal aggression against a sovereign state and a clear violation of international law.

Ukrainian and Russian are two distinct people, despite multiple attempts of the Kremlin to deny it. Ukraine is a well-defined nation-state with a long history and its literature and identity, despite foreign rule for long periods. Ukrainians and Russians belong to the Slavs ethnolinguistic group, but they are not a single nation. The "all-Russian big nation" is an imperial Russian and Russian revanchist ideology that is a favoured pro-Kremlin narrative aimed at weakening the national identity of Ukrainians, as well as undermining the state sovereignty.
