DISINFO: Ukraine is doomed to become a Western colony unless it becomes part of Russia

SUMMARY

The policy of eradicating everything Russian in Ukraine, primarily the language and culture, can only be partially explained by the desire of the temporary rulers in Kyiv to strengthen their power.

It looks much more like preparation for a pre-sale. The country is being prepared for new owners. Ukraine, in its current form, is doomed to the miserable fate of a Western colony, from which everything even remotely valuable will be squeezed out.

This land and these people can only be saved in one way – by becoming part of Russia again.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine’s alleged lack of sovereignty, aiming to undermine its statehood. Since 2014, pro-Kremlin outlets have often claimed that Ukraine either did not exist as an independent state or was going to disintegrate very soon.

The narrative, that Ukraine can not be a real and full state independent from Russia aims to justify Russia’s invasion of its neighbour.

The EU and Ukraine's allies adhere to international law regarding state borders, fully support the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, and reject any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. No state, except the Russian Federation, has violated Ukraine's territorial integrity.

The unfounded claims that Ukraine can be saved only by Russia or that Russia and Ukraine are "one nation" are one of the oldest and most deeply ingrained myths that have been used by the Kremlin to justify its aggression against Ukraine. Read our article One Nation Myth.

Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. Its independence and territorial integrity is internationally recognised by the whole world, including Russia in 1991. The country's sovereignty has been violated only as a result of continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating in a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022.

Ukraine’s cooperation with the EU, the US, and other partners is based on mutual agreements, such as the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. These agreements promote trade, democratic reforms, and development, not exploitation. Ukraine voluntarily seeks closer ties with Europe to modernise its economy and strengthen democracy.

See other disinformation narratives, such as claims that the Coalition of the Willing planned Ukraine's direct military occupation, that the West's plan for peacekeeping mission is de facto occupation of Ukraine, that The Kyiv regime is doomed and facing either capitulation or a deal on Russia’s terms, that Ukraine lost its independence and is under external control, that the West has made Ukraine its colony and is using Ukrainians as cannon fodder, that the West is destroying Ukrainian statehood and its military forces, that Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington shows that Ukraine will be a neo-colony of the US, that dependency on the US has devastated Ukraine, that The UK is trying to create a new colony in Ukraine.
