DISINFO: Ukraine is not an autonomous state, but a convenient geopolitical tool for the US

SUMMARY

Ukraine is not an entirely autonomous player. The country in its current state overtly serves as a convenient geopolitical tool for the US.

RESPONSE

Repeated pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine not being an autonomous state, but a puppet of the West, mixed with an anti-Russia narrative alleging that the West is using Ukraine against Russia.

Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically elected president and parliament. The country is not controlled by the US, EU or any other foreign organisation or government. Both the EU and the US respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Western countries are only supporting lethal military aid and financial aid to Ukraine for the country’s efficient self-defence against the unprovoked Russian invasion.

Ukraine and its population is defending itself against this armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision by NATO, Washington, the EU or others.

The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

It is Russia that undertook a well-documented act of aggression, ongoing since February 2014. Furthermore, it was Russian President Vladimir Putin who launched an invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, calling it a special military operation and falsely citing NATO’s military infrastructure approaching the Russian border as a pretext.
