DISINFO: Ukraine is resorting to terrorism by attacking nuclear sites in Russia

SUMMARY

Kyiv is increasingly resorting to terrorist methods against Moscow. The Zelensky regime, while not achieving any success on the battlefield, tried to attack nuclear power plants in Leningrad, Kalinin and Kursk.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about nuclear issues and terrorism in the context of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This claim was neither counterbalanced nor critically challenged in the article.

There is no evidence to back the claim that Ukraine was attempting to attack Russian nuclear power plants.

These accusations against Ukraine are intended to cover-up the Kremlin’s nuclear blackmail against Ukraine and the West, including threats to use tactical nuclear weapons and preparations for a deliberate nuclear catastrophe at the Russia-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Russia is making statements about the possibility of using nuclear arms in its war against Ukraine. For several years now the Russian info-sphere has seen nuclear threats being made against the west by public figures like Dmitry Kiselyov or Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Since beginning of 2022 and the full invasion, Russian officials having make such statements include Dmitry MedvedevRamzan KadyrovMargarita Simonyan or even Vladimir Putin who specified that “it was not a bluff”.
