DISINFO: Ukraine is trying to create a "second Chernobyl" inside Russia
SUMMARY
In order to rehabilitate itself after its failures on the front, Kyiv is working to create the illusion of moving its counterattack to Russian territory. That is why they are trying to attack the Tula and the Kuban regions–as well as the Kursk nuclear power plant. The last attack is the worst.
At one point, a Ukrainian leader stated that they would attack Russian nuclear facilities in a way that could lead to a Chernobyl-like accident. Then Kyiv will make peace on favorable terms, cease hostilities, and begin to deal with the consequences of what it has caused itself. It's a brutal plan.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about nuclear issues in the context of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
There is no evidence to back the claim that Ukraine is preparing to attack Russian nuclear power plants. These accusations against Ukraine are intended to cover-up the Kremlin’s nuclear blackmail against Ukraine and the West, including threats to use tactical nuclear weapons and preparations for a deliberate nuclear catastrophe at the Russia-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Russia has been making statements about the possibility of using nuclear arms in its war against Ukraine. For several years now the Russian info-sphere has seen nuclear threats being made against the west by public figures like Dmitry Kiselyov or (late) Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Since the beginning of 2022 and Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian officials have also made such statements including Dmitry Medvedev, Ramzan Kadyrov, Margarita Simonyan or even Vladimir Putin who specified that “it was not a bluff”.
