DISINFO: Ukraine may stage a provocation to regain the attention lost by the war in Iran

SUMMARY

The Kyiv regime may organise a provocation in Ukraine or in Europe in order to regain the attention it is losing amid the conflict in the Middle East. Among the options there may be some kind of explosions, as well as the use of radiation-hazardous facilities. The main task of Kyiv is to have a lot of blood, a painful topic and a great resonance. And so that Russia could be blamed for this story and Ukraine could be said to be the injured party in this sense, regardless of the fact that it is the direct organiser.

RESPONSE

This is part of a wider pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign exploiting the war in Iran to advance anti-Ukraine disinformation messages, in this case a disinformation narrative about Ukraine being abandoned by its allies, which has been identified as one of the key features of this campaign.

No evidence is provided to support the claim. Allegations made solely by Russian authorities cannot be considered as such, given their proven history of making unsubstantiated claims based on faked or nonexistent proof, especially regarding the war in Ukraine. Russian authorities accusing Ukraine or other countries of preparing provocations and sabotage actions without presenting any evidence has been a constant throughout the war, including claims about dirty bombsnuclear provocationsbioweaponstoxic substances and staged atrocities.

The allegation is baseless. Ukraine does not need to resort to these actions as it has been in the spotlight during the Iran war, offering expertise on countering Iranian-made drones at the request of the US and other countries.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Kyiv and London are plotting provocations to disrupt the Russia-US dialogue, that Ukraine is planning terrorist attacks against Russian diplomatic missions to disrupt negotiations, that Kyiv is plotting an attack on a NATO vessel to drag it into war, or that Ukraine prepares chemical weapons provocation to accuse Russia in OPCW.
