DISINFO: Ukraine peace summit to set up ultimatum for Russia

SUMMARY

The Ukrainian ambassador to Uzbekistan, Nikolai Doroshenko, has been persistently inviting Uzbekistan to the June summit in Switzerland. At the summit, under the guise of the 'Peace Formula,' an ultimatum is set to be presented to Russia bypassing the UN. Moreover, the participating states are expected to sign commitments to counteract Moscow.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation claim about peace in Ukraine, made in the context of the upcoming Ukraine peace conference to take place in Switzerland on 15 and 16 June.

Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated by continuous acts of aggression by Russian armed forces since 2014 culminating in a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine on 24th February 2022. The Ukrainian people and Ukraine as a state are counteracting Russia's illegal invasion as enshrined in the UN Charter Article 51.

On 15 and 16 June 2024, Switzerland is organising a Summit on Peace in Ukraine at the Bürgenstock. The aim of this meeting of heads of state and governments is to develop a common understanding of a path towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

Following Ukraine’s request, Switzerland has invited over 160 delegations from around the world to join for the first Summit on Peace in Ukraine. The invitees include members of the G7, G20, BRICS, many other countries from all continents, as well as the EU, three international organisations and religious representatives.

The Global Peace Summit will build on the discussions that have taken place in recent months, notably the Ukrainian peace formula. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace plan at a EU-Ukraine summit in February 2023. Allies of Ukraine supported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace formula.
