DISINFO: Ukraine plans to set up camps to use civilians as human shields

SUMMARY

The plans of the Ukrainian army includes setting up camps for those who would flee the battlefield. They want to use them as human shields and for information purposes to gain the attention of the international public.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation claim about the war in Ukraine, also alleging that Ukraine is Russophobic and that the Ukrainian army is preparing atrocities against ethnic Russians.

There has been no indication that the Ukrainian armed forces would set up camps, let alone, internment camps, should the hostilities escalate due to a potential Ukrainian offensive. What is more, Ukraine has never indicated that it would launch an offensive against the Donbas region.

Kyiv has repeatedly stated that it is not interested in escalation with Russia and that it prefers a peaceful solution. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Minsk agreements are the only option to end the war in Donbas.

Fuelling allegations of Russophobia is one of the most used tactics of pro-Kremlin media outlets. For similar cases of disinformation in the subject, click here.
