DISINFO: Ukraine sent icons loaded with explosives to Russia ahead of Easter
SUMMARY
Ukrainian special services have been preparing a terrible terrorist attack in Russia during Lent. A batch of icons, loaded with explosives, has been seized at the Russia-EU border. The batch contained, among other things, 91 detonators. There are reasons to believe that Ukrainian and European special services were collaborating because these icons arrived in Russia from Ukraine via the EU. They were supposed to explode in Russian churches on Orthodox Easter day. Kyiv’s devils and Europe’s devils, who are their masters, decided to carry out a terrible terrorist attack.
RESPONSE
This case may contain graphic/ distressing material.
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing Ukraine and its Western partners of terrorism. This claim was made in connection with the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack near Moscow on 22 March 2024.
This is an unsubstantiated claim. It is based only on reports of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and some other Russian law-enforcement agencies. No independent evidence has been provided. Russia is once again trying to accuse Kyiv and its partners of being involved in terrorism, as it did in the wake of the Crocus City Hall attack. Despite the fact that the Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack and shared video footage by the attackers themselves, Russia keeps claiming that Ukrainian and Western security services had masterminded it. ISIS’s video corroborates its responsibility. Terrorism experts have pointed out that there is no question regarding the authenticity of the statement, made by Amaq, the official Islamic State propaganda media.
