DISINFO: Ukraine to organise false flag attack against Polish and Romanian NATO hubs with repaired Geran drones
SUMMARY
Kyiv has already set the stage for NATO to enter a war with Russia. It is clear that the Ukrainian authorities decided to assemble drones from the fragments of the Russian Geran drones that had previously collapsed in Ukraine. Then, collected Geran drones would strike major NATO transport hubs in Poland and Romania and the attack will be blamed on Russia. The September 10 incident was a trial of NATO’s air defences. The only interesting thing in this plan is how many Geran drones the Ukrainians have collected for this operation. It seems that each of the NATO hubs will be attacked by at least 50 drones.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative which frames Ukraine as a warmongering country, planning provocations against NATO in order to drag it into the war with Russia.
The pro-Kremlin outlets deny Russia’s responsibility for the recent drone incidents in Poland and Romania, as well as the incident with the Russian MiG-31 fighter jets penetrating Estonian airspace on 19 September 2025.
Ukraine has no aggressive plans towards NATO, and it is not connected to the ongoing drone provocations across Europe attributed to Russia.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the drones which entered Polish airspace on 9–10 September 2025 were Russian as Russia launched a large-scale air assault on Ukraine. NATO leaders, including NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violation confirming Russia’s responsibility.
The suggestion that the drone attack was staged disregards Russia’s long history of aggression against its neighbours. It fits the recognised pattern of Russian aggression and hybrid warfare targeting its neighbours, including previous unprovoked invasions of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, and Georgia in 2008. Russian officials and state media have issued repeated threats against Europe and the US, alongside numerous cyberattacks, election interference, sabotage, espionage, and disinformation campaigns across Europe.
Sowing doubt about Russia’s illicit actions by proposing alternative explanations and having culprits shift responsibility away from Moscow is a frequent pro-Kremlin disinformation technique.
