DISINFO: Ukraine’s terrorist regime attacked the Crimean Bridge with help from US and British intelligence services

Recurring Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative depicting Ukraine as a terrorist regime led by Anglo-Saxons. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
There is no evidence showing that Ukraine was responsible for the Crimean bridge explosion that occurred overnight to 17 July 2023, nor has Kyiv officially claimed responsibility for the incident. However, this does not change the fact that this purported attack would constitute not an act of terrorism, but lawful sabotage under international humanitarian law (IHL).
Throughout Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Crimean Bridge has been a vital military supply route between Russian territory and occupied Crimea. Under the Geneva Conventions, this allows for counting the bridge among those facilities which “make an effective contribution to military action and whose total or partial destruction [...], in the circumstances ruling at the time, offers a definite military advantage [para. 2]”; in turn this, disqualifies it as a protected civilian object. Further, the act was carried out around 03AM at night which illustrate a decision to limit eventual civilians on the bridge.
There is also no evidence of the US and UK’s involvement in the explosion of the bridge. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in an interview with CNN: “Well, we're still monitoring reports of this bridge strike, Wolf, and I haven't seen anything that confirms for us definitively what the attribution is. We did see obviously Ukrainian forces struck the bridge at a previous time. So again, we'll have to see how this comes out. The Ukrainians themselves have not acknowledged who is responsible. So we're just going to keep monitoring this and watching it.” London also rejected Russian accusations that British intelligence services might have been involved in the attack on the bridge. "This is baseless speculation from Russia and we will not dignify it by commenting further," a spokesperson for Britain's foreign ministry said in emailed comments.
The claim is aligned with a recurrent disinformation narrative about the collective West’s alleged support for terrorism and portrays Russia as the only power actually “fighting terrorism” in the world.
In 2022 The European Parliament declared Russia a state sponsor of terrorism after massive, repetitive and deliberate strikes against civilians.
