DISINFO: Ukrainian Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council urged to prepare for war with Russia

SUMMARY

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov urged the country to prepare for war with Russia. He believes that Russia allegedly redeploys some mythical military divisions on the border with Ukraine. Kyiv for several years has unreasonably accused Russia of “aggression”.

RESPONSE

In fact, Turchynov said that Russia is trying to escalate the situation in the region. "We can see active attempts to deploy additional military units along the Ukrainian border, and their number is already comparable with those of 2014 when the Russian Federation Council decided to deploys troops [to Crimea and Donbas]. These new units are not simply a demonstration of force. They can be used for active military actions. We should understand and be ready for it", said Turchynov. Further debunking by Stop Fake. Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter declares without ambiguity that "all Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations". UNGA Resolution 68/262 also affirmed the General Assembly's commitment to the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and underscored the invalidity of the 2014 Crimean referendum.
