DISINFO: Ursula von der Leyen finances a proxy war in Ukraine
SUMMARY
According to a recent statement from Ursula von der Leyen, the European Union and the United States plan to support the Kyiv authorities “as long as necessary”. It means that the EU and the USA will support Ukraine “until the last Ukrainian”. The EU is pursuing American interests by paying 50 billion for a proxy war in Ukraine, while regular Europeans are suffering the high costs of living. Ursula von der Leyen is a traitor of Europe. The EU will destroy Europe by giving money to Ukraine – this country does not even belong to the Union.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the West of direct involvement in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, attempting to distract attention from Russia’s crimes committed during the invasion. Another disinformation narrative is the portrayal of the EU as an American puppet.
On 1 February 2024, EU leaders agreed to provide Ukraine with additional financial support (up to 50 billion EUR until 2027). This crucial funding will help Ukraine keep its administration running, pay salaries, pensions, and provide basic public services, as it continues to defend itself against Russia’s aggression.
According to Ursula von der Leyen, “Today, Europe got stronger. The European Council re-confirmed Europe’s unwavering commitment to stand with Ukraine. We all know that Ukraine is fighting for us. So we will support them with the necessary funding and provide them with the much-needed predictability they deserve.”
