The claim is an attempt to advance the long-discredited pro-Kremlin narrative about US-funded bio laboratories with military purposes in Ukraine and other countries close to Russia, which pro-Kremlin outlets and Russian authorities continue promoting despite repeated debunking.
The claim also aims to discredit the Moldovan and Romanian president Maia Sandu.
No evidence is provided to support this claim.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova qualified the claim as "fiction": "The information is pure fiction. Attributed to the Russian Ministry of Defense and shared by several Russian websites, it continues the series of hoaxes by which Russian propaganda attempts to promote the idea that Ukraine may use biological agents in the future. The new element that appeared now is that Moldova would also be logistically involved in this process. We firmly declare: they are forgeries, intended to create confusion and ambiguities with the aim of discrediting the Moldovan authorities and the European path of our country”.
