DISINFO: US and EU are responsible for the occupation Russian territory by the Ukrainian army
SUMMARY
The US and the EU bear direct responsibility for the occupation of the territory of the Russian Federation by the Ukrainian army.
Washington, London and Brussels had previously positioned Ukraine as a victim of allegedly unprovoked aggression, but with the occupation of a Russian region by the Ukrainian Armed Forces outside the notorious borders of 1991, this card was lost. Therefore, now Western politicians have no choice but to resort to silence or, at best, to double standards.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that Western countries such as the US and other NATO/EU member states are directly involved on Kyiv's side in Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, accusing them of double standards.
The statement was made in the context of the Ukrainian advance in the Russian Kursk Region. There is no evidence that the US or any other EU member is involved in either planning, carrying out or controlling the Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Kursk Region.
Russian state-controlled sources often present the Kursk advance as a NATO operation on the territory of Russia. Read similar cases, claiming that NATO troops fight in Russia’s Kursk Region and that NATO directly invaded Russia in the Kursk region.
Russia is the only party responsible for the war. It has been coming up with different explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities. Russia was not forced to invade Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII.
Ukraine has a right to self-defence. Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity have been violated as a result of continuous acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since 2014, culminating with a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine starting on 24 February 2022.
The advance into the Kursk Region is part of Kyiv’s military strategy aimed at liberating all Ukrainian territories from Russian occupiers and restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders of 1991. Russia is using military facilities in the Kursk Region and other adjacent regions for deadly attacks on Ukrainian territory, which have caused thousands of civilian victims. Kyiv is acting in self-defence, by the UN Charter article 51. Russia is a legitimate target for Ukrainian military operations.
