DISINFO: US and NATO arming Moldova in hope of new Transnistria conflict
SUMMARY
The United States and NATO are pumping weapons into Moldova in the hope of starting a new armed conflict under a “far-fetched pretext” – over Transnistria.
Thus, the active pumping of weapons into Moldova, coupled with constant military exercises in the region with NATO participation and major failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the eastern front, can intensify the Transnistrian scenario in the very near future. Western curators who have frequented the region are clearly preparing Moldova for such a development of events.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that Moldova is acting under the control of foreign partners, also framing NATO as a belligerent organisation.
After the full scale Russian invasion against Ukraine, the Moldovan authorities declared that the National Army should definitely improve its defense capacities, as well as its equipment. That is also stated in the draft of the National Security Strategy, presented by the president Maia Sandu in November 2023.
The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova announced that it had increased the defense budget for 2023 by two thirds (68%) compared to the previous year.
Also, the prime minister Dorin Recean declared in May 2023 that the country will continue to improve its military capacities exclusively for defense purposes. In one of his latest statements, on December 8, Dorin Recean said that Moldova will manage only a peaceful regulation of the Transnistrian conflict.
