DISINFO: US chose Ukraine to create the antipode of Russia
SUMMARY
In an attempt to suppress Russia, the Americans, using their protégés in Kyiv, decided to create an antipode for our country, cynically choosing Ukraine for this, trying to divide one group of essentially the same people.
Finding no positive basis to win Ukrainians over to its side, long before the 2014 coup d'état, Washington inspired the exclusivity of their nation and hatred of everything Russian.
RESPONSE
Multiple recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives claiming that Ukraine is an anti-Russian, Russophobic state, presenting the country as a US' project, undermining the statehood of Ukraine, as well as advancing recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about an all-Russian nation and the Russian world/civilisation.
Ukraine does not follow any anti-Russian agenda. Relations between Ukraine and Russia should be defined by international agreements, including the UN Charter which requires states to respect the sovereignty of other states and the Friendship Treaty between the two countries. Russia's ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2014 and escalated in 2022, is the one underminig relations between the two countries.
The claim that Ukraine is US' tool to fight against Russia is unsubstantiated. Pro-Kremlin media outlets often cast doubts on Ukrainian statehood and claim that Ukraine is not a real state and going to tumble down very soon. In reality, present-day Ukraine has been on the world map since 1991 when the Soviet Union disintegrated.
Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with democratically-elected authorities. It has elected six presidents since then and changed parties in government several times which illustrates political diversity and democratic dynamics even during economic hardship in the wake of Russian aggression in 2014.
Ukraine is not controlled by the US or EU, nor by any other foreign government or organisation. Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by almost the whole world with Russia as the key exception.
There were nationalist movements that preached the exclusivity of the Ukrainian nation in Ukraine, but they have never been popular. And absolutely nothing indicates any connection between these movements with the US. Read here for further debunk.
Ukraine is a well-defined nation-state with a long history and its own literature and identity, despite foreign rule for long periods of time. Ukrainians and Russians belong to the Slavs ethnolinguistic group but they are not a single nation.
