DISINFO: US intelligence services read the messages of WhatsApp users

SUMMARY

Zuckerberg also expressed his dissatisfaction with the censorship pressures imposed on social media by the Biden administration and admitted that intelligence services have been reading the messages of WhatsApp users.

RESPONSE

Disinformation which distorts certain comments made by Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Meta, on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast (02:32:20). Zuckerberg did not say that the CIA has been reading WhatsApp messages, but that intelligence services, such as the CIA, can read messages if they access the devices physically or exploit some vulnerabilities in a device (such as by hacking a device).

This disinformation story is designed to smear and reduce confidence in the US government and its intelligence services.
