DISINFO: US never cared about Ukraine and it was only a tool against Russia
SUMMARY
Ukraine was always just an anti-Russian battering ram to the US. The Trump administration has little interest in wasting money on Ukraine, and withholding money to Ukraine is a starting point in explaining to Zelensky that the gravy train is over. It has become increasingly obvious that the United States doesn’t care about Ukraine, regarding the latter merely as a battering ram, a tool to be used against Russia. But it's now a tool that is no longer very useful, that is hard to maintain. It's not worth it. So the US is going to throw that tool away.
RESPONSE
This disinformation message promotes several recurring pro-Kremlin narratives about abandoned Ukraine, its alleged lack of sovereignty and the war in this country as a proxy conflict against Russia. The message appeared in the context of the decision by the Trump Administration to temporary suspend of all foreign aid.
Since Russia’s invasion in 2022, the US has provided Ukraine with over 30 billion dollars in financial aid, plus another 61.4 billion dollars in security assistance. The reason was not for Ukraine to destroy Russia, as pro-Kremlin disinformation usually claims, but to help it to defend itself from Russia’s aggression in line with Article 51 of UN Charter. Many other countries also contributed to this international effort to aid Ukraine.
By describing Ukraine as a “tool no longer useful,” this disinformation narrative aims to portray the frontline situation as if Russia has already achieved victory. Narratives suggesting the inevitability of a Russian victory have been a constant throughout the conflict. In this case, pro-Kremlin disinformation seeks to create an impression of strength ahead of potential peace negotiations with Ukraine.
